Bridgets And Brigid’s Over Babylon??? (Or Cleveland’s Two Best Irish Bands Raise The Bar…Or Raise The Roof’s On Them Anyway!!!) by Seamus Curran
Brigid’s Cross
Brace Yourself Bridget
o say that Cleveland has a long and varied history with respect to Irish immigrants would be an understatement. When the “coffin ships” rolled into Ellis Island during the great famine (1847) and thousands of Irish peasants packed the ghettos of Brooklyn and beyond, they brought with them hope. Hope, that is, in the form of a music that bonded them together. And though some of those Irish became hillbillies and some became your judges More >

Bugs in new gadgets is not uncommon and have plagued companies like Apple, Sony, Onkyo, VTech and Flip. These issues drive buyers nuts as companies rush to bring new gadgets to market without the necessary and complete testing. The latest glitch concerns the new touch screen sixth-generation iPod Nano. For some odd reason Apple designed the player without a real power-down button. The supposed “off” switch places the player in “sleep mode” which still consumes energy.
Several purchasers have complained that their Nanos went dead in less than one day even though the battery has a “24-hour capacity” rating. Previous More >

Nokia, the world’s leading cellphone maker, announced on Thursday that it has started to ship its new model N8 smartphone. This is Nokias attempt to get back into the “most expensive smartphone” product line. Nokia’s N8 has received the highest number of pre-orders in Nokia’s history and should be widely available in coming weeks.

Then most people think of blues music, Cleveland isn?t foremost on their minds. The Mississippi Delta. Chicago. New Orleans. Wherever?
However, Cleveland has always had its share of legendary blues cats. Among them, of course, are Robert Lockwood Jr. (aka Robert Jr. Lockwood), The Mr. Stress Blues Band and, of course, Jimmy Ley (aka James Leyava). These three acts alone made Cleveland a major blues consideration among travelling blues acts and historical blues enthusiasts. Thousands of gigs between them, these artists stand tall among blues legends and have spawned many, many other bands to take up the blues banner and rally More >

Geography 101: London is nowhere near the Mississippi River. Different continents altogether. For that matter, Cleveland isn’t all the way there, either. But Mr. Downchild isn’t bothered by basic geography. As far as this 50 year-old English Clevelander is concerned, the muddy waters of the Mississippi delta run deep in his veins.
The proof is Behind the Sun, a new 11-track CD, released on his own Mascita label, in which Downchild leaves behind his three-piece band, the Houserockers, and steps into the scary but satisfying solo acoustic arena. Listen to tracks like “Travelin’ Man,” “Angel on My More >

Right now when we discuss a nation that has a repute of imitating nearly a myriad of brands of items, nobody will even contest that when we point out China to be that country and say that it’s just black propaganda and a one-sided declaration.
China has imitated almost all kinds of brands and products that it has been long known to manufacture and market affordable yet mediocre products like DVD players and other electronic gadgets like mobile phones. The country has a big reputation of pirating original brands that when a Chinese person goes inside a Louis Vuitton store in More >

It was 1966 and a 4 year old Billy Sullivan’s first appearance on stage. Sitting behind his older brother John’s drum set, on John’s knee, Billy tapped out Little Black Egg with John’s band, Shades of Grey. They were playing at the Trophy Room in the Brookgate Lanes Bowling Alley, Brook Park, Ohio, Billy’s hometown. From that moment on, Billy was bitten by the Rock-n-Roll Bug!
While listening to his older brother’s and sister’s record collection and encouraged by his parents, Billy was influenced and fueled by the Beatles music and his mother, Rosa’s, love of “Bluegrass”. Music became and still More >
