With Twitter being what it is, Lady Gaga will soon become the world’s top Twitter user overtaking current champ Britney Spears’ number of followers.
According to Famecount.com, a social media statistics service, Gaga recorded 5,635,460 followers today, while Spears has 5,646,028.

If her current growth rates continue she should pass Spears’ count on Thursday or Friday of this week. Spears’ has enjoyed a brief run to the top of Twitter which only began less than three months ago, overtaking actor Ashton Kutcher for the top spot.

Famecount.com confirmes that Gaga’s Twitter followers, 16 million Facebook friends and YouTube popularity make her the most popular entity online currently. However, the singer’s Twitter crown is far from secure as Justin Bieber added 800,000 new Twitter followers this month to his existing 4.5 million. The young teen star could pass Gaga within six months.
